Bologna Writers’ Workshop 2026
The Bologna Writers’ Workshop 2026 is a prestigious literary residency and training program scheduled to run up to the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (April 13-16, 2026) in Bologna, Italy. Organized as part of the Guest of Honour program featuring Norway, this workshop aims to promote emerging Norwegian writers and illustrators specializing in children’s and young adult literature.
Running from May 2025 until the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in April 2026, the workshop supports nine carefully selected authors and illustrators by providing international travel opportunities, networking events, mentorship, and training sessions focused on the outward-facing aspects of literary careers including publishing, marketing, and cross-cultural engagement.
Participants gain invaluable exposure to global publishing markets, interact with international editors and agents, and participate in events that showcase Norwegian literature for children and young adults on a global stage. The initiative also includes participation in major exhibitions such as the renowned Illustrators Exhibition during the fair, giving artists a rare opportunity for broad international exposure.
This workshop enhances Norway’s cultural diplomacy and literary export strategy, reflecting strong governmental support through funding and collaborative partnerships. It fosters international literary exchange and innovation, nurturing the next generation of children’s literature creators in a globally interconnected marketplace.
The Bologna Writers’ Workshop 2026 exemplifies how targeted literary programs can empower emerging talent and strengthen countries’ cultural footprints at major international book fairs.
